Varietas® Memory Care program is nationally recognized and unique to Traditions communities in four states
Indianapolis, IN January 2019 – The Varietas® Memory Care Program, comprised of nationally recognized, award-winning and personalized therapies for residents with Alzheimer’s and other age-related dementias is now recognized as a Traditions-exclusive program. This year marks the program’s registered trademark for Traditions communities throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The Varietas® Program is based on four principles that are proven to maximize quality of life for our residents: a therapeutic environment, social engagement, individualized care and family support.
Each resident’s daily routine is structured around past preferences, including menu choices and customized meals, interests and behaviors. Behavior-based Ergonomics Therapies (BBET) tap into more than 150 music, video, stimulating and tactile therapies. We also engage personal memory props from family (gentle reminders of things that create moments of joy) that caregivers can immediately and proactively use to engage and comfort a resident.
“This program has changed the way we care for our residents in Memory Care and their families. We have real and profound insight into what’s helpful for each person now and over time,” said Kristin Cherry, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “More than simple distraction or support, Varietas® uncovers unique positive and negative triggers for residents. And then it allows us to apply therapies, specifically for your loved one, that bring them joy, comfort, purpose and routine,” added Cherry. “And our support extends to family, with monthly support groups and ongoing information on treatment options and ways we can improve our caregiving.”
Varietas® staff has additional dementia/Alzheimer’s training through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, with each caregiver then applying for Dementia Practitioner certification.
“Our BBET therapies have won national awards from organizations like Long-Term Living and the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA), and these therapies along with daily routines and socialization are proven to reduce falls, improve mood, appetite and behaviors, even reduce medications,” said Cherry. “It’s not an impersonal program that just looks good on paper. It really is shaped completely around your loved one and your input.”
